Harvey Fierstein

Personal Information
Debut: LaMaMa 1971 in Andy Warhol's Pork, followed by more than 60 Off Off-Broadway productions. Fierstein then wrote and performed a bevy of his own plays. Torch Song Trilogy opened Off Off-Broadway in 1981, transferred Off-Broadway in 1982 and then on to Broadway, garnering two Tony and two Drama Desk Awards (Best Play and Best Actor in a Play), an Obie and a Dramatists Guild Award and was nominated for the Olivier. Harvey also played Torch Song in L.A. and London. He won his third Tony Award for the book of La Cage aux Folles. His other plays include Safe Sex, Spookhouse and Forget Him. Film credits include Independence Day, Mrs. Doubtfire, Bullets Over Broadway, Disney's Mulan, The Times of Harvey Milk and Torch Song Trilogy. TV work includes "Cheers" (Emmy Award nomination), "Common Ground" (also co- wrote), "The Simpsons" and "Elmo Saves Christmas." For HBO he wrote and starred in "Tidy Endings" (ACE Award) and "The Sissy Duckling" (Humanitas Award). Mr. Fierstein is also a regular commentator on PBS' "In the Life." He's just published his children's book, The Sissy Duckling. In addition, he has made concert appearances across America and Europe.
