Personal Information
TARELL ALVIN McCRANEY (Playwright) is the author of The Brother/Sister Plays, which have been performed by The Public, Foundry Theatre, London’s Young Vic, Alliance Theatre, and McCarter Theater (co-production with The Public). His other plays include Wig Out! (developed at Sundance Theatre Lab, Vineyard Theatre and in London by the Royal Court, winner of GLAAD Award for Outstanding Play); Without/Sin and Run, Mourner, Run (adapted from Randall Kenan's short story), both of which premiered at Yale Cabaret; Choir Boy, commissioned by Manhattan Theater Club; Again and Again; A Meditation on Antigone, for Berkeley Rep; and The Breach, commissioned by Southern Rep and Seattle Rep. Among McCraney’s many honors are the 2009 Steinberg Playwright Award, the inaugural New York Times Outstanding Playwright Award, the London Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright, the Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, and the Whiting Writing Award. McCraney is a graduate of New World School of the Arts High School in Miami, DePaul University, and the Yale School of Drama, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s international writer in residence, and the 2009 Hodder Fellow at Princeton University.
