Gina Gionfriddo has received an Obie
Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, The
Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, The Helen
Merrill Award for Emerging Playwrights,
and an American Theatre Critics’
Association/Steinberg Citation. Gina’s
most recent play, Becky Shaw,
premiered in Actors’ Theatre of
Louisville’s Humana Festival and ran Off
Broadway at New York’s Second Stage in
early 2009. The show received three
Lucille Lortel Award nominations
including one for Outstanding Play.
Gina’s other work includes: After
Ashley (Humana Festival, The
Vineyard Theatre in New York, regional
productions across the country, and in
Poland); U.S. Drag (Off Broadway
by The StageFARM, Off-Off Broadway by
Clubbed Thumb, and many regional
productions); the short plays
Squalor and America’s Got
Tragedy (The StageFARM) and
Guinevere (O’Neill Playwrights’
Conference).
Her plays have been published by

literary journal, The Believer,
and short fiction to Canteen.
She is currently at work on a new play
commissioned by Playwrights’ Horizons.
Gina is a writer/producer for the NBC
series, “Law and Order.” She has also
written for “Law and Order: Criminal
Intent” and “Cold Case.” She is a
graduate of the MFA Playwriting Program
at Brown University where she received a
Lucille Lortel Fellowship. She has
taught writing at Brown, Providence
College, and Rhode Island College.
